Did you get to see the northern lights Thursday evening? A geomagnetic storm on Thursday, Oct. 10, allowed Tennessee to get a view of the aurora borealis. The northern lights were predicted to only be visible by states further north, but many Tennesseans were able to get a glimpse of the light show. A coronal mass ejection from the sun's atmosphere caused the geo storm, lighting up the skies. The interaction of particles from solar flares with the Earth's magnetic field created the beautiful colored glow of the aurora borealis. This rare opportunity was mesmerizing to witness and displays of the wonders of nature. Missed it this time? Don't worry, the next solar event is predicted to happen in July 2025.
